Exciting news here at the still-new HDC. We’ve started a regional affiliate program, with an initial group of affiliates from Colorado, Louisiana, Ohio, Massachusetts, and Washington (the state). This enterprising group has already begun organizing events, meetings, and more; in fact, the Massachusetts affiliate is organizing a regional Datapalooza for this fall.
The affiliates have begun monthly calls and are planning their list of activities, to include monthly seminars on using open health data effectively, with help from the Health Data Consortium.
The affiliates don’t get financial assistance from HDC, but they do get the opportunity to coordinate with those doing similar work across the country and to learn from the experiences of their peers about how to encourage governments, entrepreneurs, industry, and nonprofits to use and promote open health data.
We’ve set up an internal site for communications among the affiliates, and discussion on the site has already taken off. Our affiliates are:
Phil Kalin & Mannat Singh
Center for Improving Value in Health Care (CIVHC)
NSF Center for Visual and Decision Informatics (CVDI)
Center for Business and Information Technologies, University of Louisiana at Lafayette
Viable Synergy LLC
Massachusetts Health Data Consortium
Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation, University of Washington, Seattle
